"The combination of a graphic eye and a painterly sensibility as well as a personal connection to her surroundings form the foundation for Isa Huss' creative expression. One of her main sources of inspiration, the Moorish, adds a distinctive and enriching dimension in various aspects: Including themes, color palettes and the special atmosphere of her compositions. The cultural influences in the subject matter and traces of weathering -modeled on nature- in the methodology. She creates these filigree structures on canvas with numerous layers of paint, which she selectively removes again.

 

As you approach the artwork, the contrasts become apparent. At the same time, a harmonious result is revealed from a distance. Her works span the arc from the abstract to the concrete. In both artistic fields, she is concerned with capturing the individual energy during the act of painting: Whether she conveys calm & concentration with a fine brushstroke (as in the Moorish series) or expresses joy and strength with an energetic impulse (as in the triptych Free & Strong). What is special about Huss' work is this link of precision and expressiveness."
